Who said there is no talent in the DMV? Y'anna Crawley is the winner of BET's Sunday's Best!

Ms. Y'Anna Crawley, affectionately known as Yannie or Ya Ya Boogie in the DMV area, is the winner of season 2 of BET's Sunday's Best. The DMV showed up and showed out in voting for this vocalist. We didn't vote solely because she's from this area, we voted because honey can sang! She put it down on songs like, "I don't feel no ways tired", "Grandma's Hands", and turned it out on Mary Mary's "Heaven".

The DMV know her from the go go band Lissen, but now the world knows her as the powerhouse that we all knew she was. Ms. Crawley has won a recording contract, and a 2009 Lincoln MKS. Her new single The Promise is soon to be in stores, but it has been played on WPGC. If you haven't heard it, check it out right here. It's a song that will make you believe that there was a promise made to all of us, and the way Yannie sings it, will bring you to tears.

Ms. Yannie is currently working on her album, and I for one can't wait to support someone from home who's "made it". Ms. Yannie is beautiful, confident, and classy. She represents us well.

CONGRATULATIONS MS. YANNIE!! Our newest hometown shero

HAWT SPOTS AND SPAS

It has been almost a month since I posted…outside of the new Maxwell video, but as promised HAWT SPOTS AND SPAS to check out this summer.
Going to the Big Apple, check out Phyto Universe: A Natural Beauty Oasis. This salon is located in Manhatten and offers Hair care treatments, Facials and body treatments, and Haute parfumerie. Their motto Relax. Breath. Indulge.
Phyto Universe: A Natural Beauty Oasis
715 Lexington, Ave.

After a relaxing day check out earthNYC. This upscale lounge is based on the Indian culture…but don’t be mislead this fun and upbeat lounge features Indian street food such as kebabs and chicken lollipops but pop bottles and specialty cocktail that are both sweet and strong while pumping hip-hop.

GOING TO THE “A” ANYTIME SOON?
I say lets hit the ATL 12 July, better yet lets make it a full weekend fly down on a Friday and hit the local clubs, Saturday relax at Spa Sydell many locations in Alpharetta, Buckhead Plaza, Forum at Peachtree Parkway, and Cumberland Mall.
After your spa treatment head out to a nice and quite dinner at “The Dining Room” located in the Ritz Carlton on Peachtree Rd.

12 July we going to see my man Jay-Z and Ciara at Chastain Park Amphitheatre

I’m looking for airfare and travel buddies as I type.

Make it a cultured weekend if you head to Miami with the American Film Festival 24-27 June.
Check out the Solaire Salon on Grand Avenue in Coconut Grove, Fl and then head to south beach for the fab food and clubs.

Want to stay local….DC that is.
Check out one of the many day spas around the area such as Soul Day Spay, Anu Day Spa and for great eyebrows go to D’Brow for a great arch or a mini facial. D’Brow is located U Street.

Be sure to head over to the National Harbor for the Food and Wine Festival 5-7 June.

GREAT BOOK AND MUST SEE MOVIE

Back in February I posted about the Sundance Winner “Push”…The name has been changed to “Precious” but the results will remain the same. This movie took home the Grand Jury and Audience prizes at the festival and is the most anticipated film of the fall.
Check out the trailer:

This amazing movie has now been backed by Oprah Winfrey and Tyler Perry and directed by Lee Daniels best known for “Monster’s Ball”. Mo’Nique and Mariah Carey both received amazing reviews for portraying characters that are outside their professional scope. But it is new comer Gabourey “Gabby’ Sidibe that steals the movie as the main character Clarice “Precious” Jones. The movie, much like the book, is told in first person about this inner-city teen that faces physical and sexual abuse by parents, teased by peers, a mother of two, and has low self-esteem but finds hope and love when odds are against her in an alternative school where her teacher, played by Paula Patton, teaches her to love herself and let it be known she is worthy of love from others.

The movie feature stars Mo’Nique, Mariah Carey, Even Ross, Lenny Kravitz, Sherri Shepherd, and introducing Gabourey Sidibe.

The movie should hit theaters this fall, but until then check out the book PUSH by Sapphire if you haven't already.
